Aggies Stun Longhorns in Lone Star Showdown Thriller

AUSTIN, TX – The Lone Star Showdown is back in full swing, and Texas A&M volleyball made a statement with a historic win over their archrival. The Aggies (14-4, 5-3 SEC) defeated No. 7 Texas (12-4, 7-1 SEC) for the first time in 23 years on the Longhorns’ home court at Gregory Gymnasium, securing a dramatic five-set victory (25-27, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 18-16) on Wednesday night.

The rivalry intensified this season with Texas joining the SEC, but it was Texas A&M who seized the opportunity to spoil the Longhorns’ perfect conference record in Austin. After dropping a hard-fought first set 25-27, the Aggies responded in dominant fashion with a 25-14 second set win. The back-and-forth continued, with Texas reclaiming the third set 25-23, only for A&M to extend the match by taking the fourth set 25-21.

In a nail-biting final set, both teams pushed each other to the limit, but the Aggies showed grit, pulling off an 18-16 victory to silence the home crowd and claim their first road win against Texas since 2001.

With the win, Texas A&M improved to 5-3 in SEC play and snapped Texas’ 12-match winning streak in the conference. For the Longhorns, the loss marked their first home defeat of the season and a reminder that no match in the SEC is guaranteed.

As the rivalry heats up again, the Aggies leave Austin with a signature win, setting the stage for future showdowns in this reignited Lone Star clash.
