El Clásico de México: Live from NRG Stadium.
Club América and Chivas are set to clash in a highly anticipated friendly at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, this Sunday evening. This installment of the Súper Clásico will be held at the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, continuing the tradition of an annual exhibition match between the fierce Mexican rivals in the United States.
Last year, América triumphed 2-0 over Chivas in front of a record-breaking crowd of 86,134 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California—the largest audience ever for a game between two Mexican clubs on U.S. soil.
Chivas enters the match amidst turmoil following the departure of head coach Fernando Gago on Thursday, ahead of his expected move to Boca Juniors. Interim coach Arturo Ortega will be at the helm for this game. Both teams have struggled to meet expectations in the Apertura, with Chivas currently sitting in ninth place, while two-time defending champion América trails just one point behind in 10th.
These two teams last faced off in league play just a month ago, when América secured a narrow 1-0 win courtesy of a Ramón Juárez goal
